Delete Your Dear Diary Data
Dear Diary: Personal Journal · Tushar Gour Updated: 13 October 2026
Dear Diary: Personal Journal is referred to as “Diary” in the instructions below.
Diary has no online app accounts, and the developer does not hold a copy of your diary. You remove your diary data directly on your device. No email or deletion request is needed to do this.
Delete all Diary-managed data
- Open Diary and go to Me.
- Under Your Data, tap Erase all local data.
- On the privacy screen, choose Erase All Local Data.
- Read the confirmation, type ERASE, and tap Erase Everything.
Unlock the app first if you enabled a lock. A successful full erase removes the local books, pages, writing, tags, favorites, managed voice notes, songs, backgrounds, local profile and saved lock settings. Memories and Insights derived from that local content are removed with it.
This is permanent for the current local copy. Only restore a backup if you intend to put its content back into Diary. If the app reports that erasure failed, do not assume all data was removed; retry or use Android’s clear-storage option below.
Remove data without opening Diary
In Android settings, find Apps → Diary → Storage (wording varies by device), then choose Clear storage / Clear data. You can also uninstall Diary to remove its app storage.
Clearing the app’s cache alone is not the same as clearing its stored diary data. These options do not require your Diary PIN or an online account.
Delete a selected book or page
- Book: open its Book Settings, choose the delete-book action and confirm.
- Page: open the page, open Page actions, choose Delete page and confirm.
Selected deletion removes the item from your active diary. For complete removal of all app-held data, use the full erase or clear-storage options above. Deleting one item does not remove earlier backups or copies you saved elsewhere.
Delete copies outside the app
Full erasure cannot remove encrypted backups you exported, original songs or images you selected, files you shared, or copies on another device, computer, messaging service or storage provider.
To remove those copies, delete them at each destination and use that provider’s trash/deletion controls where available. A restored backup can bring previously deleted content back. The developer cannot delete your device files or external copies remotely.
Retention and requests
There is no developer-held diary account or diary-content retention period to wait through. Device data is removed when the erase or clear-storage operation completes successfully. External providers may retain their own copies under their policies. No method here guarantees forensic destruction of physical storage.
If you need general help with these steps, use the public Diary inquiry page. Do not post diary content, recordings, backups, PINs, passphrases or personal details. The inquiry page provides guidance; submitting a GitHub issue does not remotely erase your diary.
If your concern is information you voluntarily posted to this repository, use GitHub’s edit/delete controls for your posts. A general inquiry can request help without repeating the information you want removed.
