Privacy Policy
Dear Diary: Personal Journal · Tushar Gour Effective date: 13 October 2026
Dear Diary: Personal Journal (referred to as “Diary” below) is a personal diary app for Android. This policy describes how the current app handles your information and how you can remove it.
Your diary stays with you
Diary does not require an online account. Your books, pages, writing, voice notes, selected media, tags, favorites and optional display name are kept on your device. Local search, Memories and Insights use your own diary content on that device.
Diary does not operate a service that receives or stores your diary. You can use its diary features offline. There is no developer-operated cloud synchronization, cloud AI processing, advertising or analytics service in this release. We do not sell your diary content.
Recording and selected media
Microphone permission is used for voice recordings you start. Diary does not continuously record or run a hidden background recording service. You can refuse or revoke microphone permission in Android settings.
Songs, images and backgrounds are selected by you. Reading a page aloud uses an available offline Android voice. If a supported offline voice is unavailable, the feature cannot read the page; your writing can still be saved.
Your Android keyboard, accessibility services, file providers and other services you choose have their own privacy practices. For example, a keyboard or a storage provider you use may have its own online features.
Locks and protection
Optional app and book locks help control access inside Diary. When you use supported biometrics, Android handles the fingerprint authentication; Diary receives the outcome rather than your fingerprint template.
Diary can request screenshot and recent-app privacy protections on supported devices. These controls depend on Android and cannot guarantee absolute security. An app or book lock does not mean all working diary content is separately encrypted by Diary. Keep your device protected and up to date.
Backups and sharing
Creating an encrypted backup is your choice. You choose a passphrase and a destination for the exported file. Diary does not operate a cloud backup service.
Files you export, copy or send remain under your control and the control of the destination or recipient you choose. An external service applies its own privacy policy. Keep your backup passphrase private; losing it can prevent restoration.
Keeping and deleting data
Diary-managed data remains on your device until you remove it. You can delete selected books or pages, or use Erase all local data to remove the app’s local diary content, managed media, local profile and saved lock settings.
Deleting selected items removes them from your active diary, but may leave previous local copies or exported backups. For complete app-data removal, use the full erase option or clear Diary’s storage in Android settings. Uninstalling the app also removes its app storage; files saved outside the app must be deleted separately.
Erasure does not remotely remove backups, original files you imported, files you shared, or copies held by another device or provider. Diary does not promise forensic destruction of device storage.
Read the data deletion instructions.
This website and support
These public information pages are hosted by GitHub Pages. They have no added advertising, analytics or tracking scripts. GitHub may process website requests under its privacy statement. This website does not access your on-device diary.
The developer is Tushar Gour. For a general privacy inquiry, use the Diary inquiry page on GitHub. GitHub requires its own account to post an issue. You do not need a GitHub account to read this policy or the deletion instructions.
GitHub issues are public. Do not submit diary entries, recordings, backup files, passphrases, PINs or other private information. If you contact us, we use the information you choose to provide to respond to that inquiry. GitHub hosts the message and your GitHub account information under its own policies. You can manage your posts through GitHub’s controls.
Changes
This page will be updated if Diary’s privacy practices change. The effective date identifies the current policy. Any future feature that needs additional permissions or consent must explain them before use.
